An in-depth product evaluation and rating

The consolidation capabilities are improving in this Analysis Services-based financial applications suite.

Outlooksoft was the first company to develop rich, analytical applications based on Microsoft Analysis Services, the market leading OLAP server. Everest is only one of three software houses (along with Geac and CDC Software) to deliver an Analysis Services-based set of planning, budgeting and consolidation applications. Designed for use on the Web, Outlooksoft also recognizes that financial and business users are at home in Excel, even if connected via the Web. Everest makes greater use of Excel as an interface than any of its competitors who favour HTML pages.

Although it currently cannot compete feature-for-feature with specialized vendors, Outlooksoft stands to benefit from the potentially significant and sustained development of its Microsoft OLAP server. Currently, though, Everest has to make use of other SQL features to deliver some of its relational and reporting features.

Unlike some of its competitors, the company has grown strongly in recent years and can be considered a viable supplier. For companies that want to standardize on a planning, budgeting and consolidation package based on industry-standard technology, then Everest is a strong contender.

Discover how the product stacks up against the competition and its strengths in:

  • Web Excel mode
  • Close integration with Excel
  • Data load and pre-calc performance

Also, weigh its advantages against some of its relatively poorly rated features such as:

  • Lack of built-in exception alerting
  • Limited language support
  • Portable machine support.

The 27-page review is a must read if you want to evaluate a Web-based, Excel orientated financial applications against products from specialized suppliers.
