QlikView (QlikTech) Product Overview |
Authors: Barney Finucane & Steffen Vierkorn A product overview An attractive tool aimed at providing fast, simple analysis for end users For the first time in The OLAP Report, we review QlikView, the much-hyped analysis tool from Pennsylvania-based vendor, QlikTech. QlikTech's marketing focus clearly leans towards the business user, as opposed to the technical user, emphasizing ease of use, rapid deployment and fast performance, rather than the more complex technical, architectural and administrative strengths that the larger BI vendors now promote. Indeed, this appears to be a shrewd move since Cognos, with PowerPlay, vacated this particular niche some years ago. In general, we found QlikView to be responsive, pleasant and easy to use. While we believe there is some substance to those claims of ease-of-use and speed of implementation and performance, we highlight instances where QlikView doesn't quite live up to the hype.
